Supporting Learners Every Step through Lifelong Guidance

The Lifelong Learning guidance team is actively engaging in outreach efforts across Malta and Gozo.

Embarking on a learning journey can be exciting, but for many adult learners, it can also be overwhelming without the right support. Whether you're taking the first steps towards personal development, re-entering education, or seeking new employment opportunities, having someone to guide you through the process can make all the difference.

Recognising the importance of this, the Directorate for Lifelong Learning and Employability has placed a strong emphasis on structured guidance through a dedicated Lifelong Learning Guidance Team.

A Personalised Approach to Learning

The role of the Lifelong Learning guidance team goes beyond offering general advice. These are trained professionals who work with individuals to understand their specific goals, challenges, and aspirations. From the initial stages of exploring available courses to helping learners stay on track with their educational plans, the guidance team makes sure that each learner is supported every step of the way.

Prospective learners are encouraged to reach out even before enrolling. Whether someone is unsure of which course to choose or wants to understand the various learning opportunities available, the guidance team offers individualised support. They assist with course selection based on each person’s interests, skill sets and future ambitions.

If needed, they also direct learners to appropriate learning opportunities offered by different entities beyond those provided by the Directorate, to provide the best possible match between a learner’s goals and available options.

Guidance that Continues Throughout the Journey

The support offered doesn't end once a learner enrols in a course. In fact, one of the core strengths of this service lies in its ongoing commitment to learners. The guidance team works closely with each individual to create tailored learning plans that contain realistic and attainable objectives. Through scheduled follow-up sessions, learners are encouraged to reflect on their progress, evaluate challenges, and adjust their goals if necessary.

This thoughtful, learner-centered approach gives adults the confidence to continue their education, often balancing studies with work or family commitments. Learners are guided to understand course levels, entry requirements and how their chosen paths align with future job opportunities or career development. In some cases, they are also supported in exploring available schemes or financial assistance related to their learning programmes.

Expanding Access Through Outreach

To reach as many learners as possible, the Lifelong Learning guidance team is actively engaging in outreach efforts across Malta and Gozo. This includes building collaborative networks with other educational and community-based organisations to make sure that guidance services are accessible to a broad and diverse audience.

These outreach initiatives are crucial in raising awareness about lifelong learning opportunities and in encouraging adults from all backgrounds to invest in their personal and professional growth.

Individuals interested in meeting with a guidance educator can easily do so either face-to-face at one of the five Adult Learning Centres or through online appointments, depending on their preference and convenience.

Breaking Language Barriers

Recognising Malta’s multicultural population, the Lifelong Learning guidance team has also made significant strides in improving accessibility for non-native speakers. As part of the EU Agenda for Adult Learning in Malta project, the team collaborated with Community Liaison Workers from the Migrant Learners’ Unit to develop information about lifelong learning in various languages. This initiative is aimed at making sure that language is not a barrier to education and that all members of society, regardless of background, are encouraged to pursue learning opportunities.

The Directorate’s commitment to lifelong learning goes beyond course delivery and lies in its mission to make learning a lifelong, accessible, and supported experience for all. With the guidance team’s personalised support, flexible options, and multilingual outreach, learners are never alone in their journey.
